Situated on the inhospitable rocky mountainous landscape of Kea island, this country house, designed by Katerina Kourkoulas, emphatically states its opposition to the natural landscape. Constructed entirely of exposed concrete, a trademark of architectural office Kokkinou - Kourkoulas, the residence extends in length, ensuring unobstructed sea view from above for all of its rooms.
A note from the Architects A vacation house made of exposed concrete in an everlasting scenery at the East side of the Kea island. The landscape is composed by stones, oak trees and view of the sea and scattered islands. Situated in the extreme topography, the volumes consist of three separate bedrooms and a canopy housing the kitchen and living room. All the movements are outdoors and frame the stunning views. The function of the house is fully reflected in the external morphology, with its three bedrooms corresponding to three cubic concrete blocks, while the common areas, living room and kitchen, compose a larger independent volume, again in line with the bedrooms. All rooms have large openings to the view, from floor to ceiling, as well as balconies, while all communication between the four spaces is external at the back of the house.
